Goodnight, Mister Tom

As we speak, we are in a small village in England, not far from Dunkirk. "Mr. Tom" Oakley is still grieving the deaths of his wife and little son while he was serving in the navy during World War I, and his grief has turned him into a reclusive hermit. It is now becoming impossible to find enough volunteers to house all of the youngsters being evacuated from London. A very silent 10-year-old is taken in by Mr. Tom almost against his will, and the child progressively discloses serious issues.
