My Uncle Benjamin

Benjamin is in love with Manette, the innkeeper's lovely daughter, but she has no intention of succumbing to the young doctor until she sees the marriage contract, and marriage is not in keeping with Benjamin's spirit of independence. For the same reason, he resists his sister Bettine's efforts to marry him off to Arabelle, the daughter of old Dr. Minxit. Benjamin agrees to go meet the girl.
