Currently, Tokyo is experiencing rain showers that appear to have completely disrupted everyone's routine. Hodaka Morishima, a high school dropout who tries to sustain himself financially by working for a small-time publisher, appears among this apparently endless downpour. Hina Amano, an orphan, simultaneously seeks employment to support herself and her younger brother. When Hodaka attempts to save Hina from unscrupulous individuals and they decide to flee together, their destinies become intertwined. Subsequently, Hodaka realizes that Hina possesses a peculiar and surprising ability: she can summon the sun anytime she prays for it. Considering Tokyo's peculiar climate, Hodaka sees the potential in this skill. He advises that Hina should become a "sunshine girl" - someone who will brighten the skies for those in need.
