Tennie's school reputation takes a huge damage before the prom a few years after her mother's death. Her father, Robert, an advertising professional who has since rebuilt his firm, tries to do the same with his connection with his daughter, further complicating the daily rigors of adolescence. Overeager Robert, against his therapist's advise, strives incredibly hard to become close to Tennie by displaying his own kind of caring. With the help of his newly recruited 19-year-old driver/intern, Jack, he attempts to learn more about his daughter's personal life. Tennie was practically raised by her extended family, and despite being intellectually minded and sophisticated for her age, she has a touch of sarcasm and a tinge of rebelliousness, with sympathy for others. Tennie recognizes that she needs to persuade her father to locate a lady companion in order to get her father off her back.
