The Papaya Sisters are a getai group from Singapore that performs during the seventh lunar month. Big Papaya has a strained relationship with her mother, who disapproves of her performances, while Little Papaya is an orphan with terminal disease. Auntie Ling and her son, Guan Yin, help the two. The two quickly soar to the top of the Singaporean getai scene, singing traditional Hokkien melodies, but their success earns them the animosity of the Durian Sisters, a competing group of Eurasian females who sing techno.
