Another Barrio
"Another Barrio" follows the story of housing inspector Bob Morales as he examines the odd circumstances surrounding a tragic fire, as though it were lifted directly from today's newspapers reporting fires, evictions, and street protests. Morales comes face to face with corruption at City Hall while investigating a residential hotel in San Francisco's Latino Mission District. He also comes face to face with the mysterious Sofia Nido, a gorgeous flame from Morales' past. While investigating the incident, Morales is forced to confront his own demons and becomes entangled in a hazardous web of deceit as he is lured into the sordid underworld of bribery, corruption, and murder. Morales is also forced to confront his own demons while investigating the crime. This independent Neo-noir feature film, based on a story by San Francisco Poet Laureate Alejandro Murguia, takes viewers into neighborhoods and communities they have never seen before on film, while also addressing issues of gentrification and displacement of low-income communities along the way. The film is directed by Alejandro Murguia, who also wrote the story.
