Poppy Wakefield is a free-lance journalist based out of her lovely English house in early 2014. When she learns that her husband, Stephen, is cheating on her, her seemingly perfect and regular existence is shattered. She seeks solace in a George Clooney television program while still reeling from her betrayal. Every characteristic her husband lacks he has in abundance in George. He is well-educated, humorous, and passionate. In short, he is everything Poppy wants in a partner. While visiting her friend Justin in Los Angeles, Poppy receives a well-timed invitation to meet George, whom she has no doubt they will fall in love with at first sight if they cross paths. Poppy's love fantasy is shattered, however, when a shocking announcement drags her back to reality. Poppy's new existence in Los Angeles begins with a series of comical near misses, unrelated events, and colorful individuals... until one day fate throws her a very unexpected curveball...
