Famous but troubled playwright Joseph Harris visits a small Michigan town at Christmastime to stage his latest play. In the face of the jaded New Yorker, an up-and-coming author challenges his literary hero to live up to his expectations. Harris has no desire to be the young man's hero at the small-town theater of Michigan. On his first day in the city, Harris makes arrangements to return to New York on the next available train. The young guy, desperate to keep his idol in town, must face his hero and examine the complex link between youthful fantasies and the knowledge of experience.
