The Edelweiss Pirates
A view of Cologne at the conclusion of World War II. It's a shambles; everyone is terrified; and there are many dead. We live in a moment marked by shocking cruelty. A group of young people in Cologne, known as the Edelweiss Pirates, refuse to bow to the Nazi regime's demands. With the help of the Hitler Youth, the anti-war protesters scrawl anti-war messages on walls. Both Karl and his younger brother, Peter, are members of the Edelweiss Pirates. Since their mother's murder in a bombing strike, the two young men have been left to fend for themselves; their father is in the front, and their older brother, Otto, has died in action. Cilly, Otto's fiancée, is doing everything she can to keep her family alive during the war. The best Carl can do is to assist her in whatever way he can.
