The Virginian is an American tv series starring James Drury and Doug McClure, that aired from 1962 to 1971 for an overall total of 249 episodes on NBC. It was a spinoff from a 1958 summer series called choice. The Virginian became television's earliest series. Successful, it conducted for fourteen days --the third longest running western of television. It follows Bonanza at fourteen seasons and 430 episodes, and also Gunsmoke at twenty five seasons and 635 episodes.
